Job Description

The Chief Pilot, Rotor Operations reports and is accountable to the Director of Operations and the FAA for the comprehensive delivery of aviation services across the organization’s Fire/Rescue aviation operations. Primary areas of oversight include the design, development, and implementation of short, intermediate and long-range operational and strategic plans that promote the success of the company Part 135 programs and align with the Company vision. The Chief Pilot, Rotor Operations is accountable for the following duties and responsibilities.
Collaborates with the Director of Operations to develop flight operations policy and procedures with regard to Part 135 operations.
Assists the Director of Operations in the development of department budgets.
Maintains Part 135 program and pilot operational readiness criteria as defined by the Director of Operations.
Ensures all flight operations are conducted safely and in compliance with current Federal Aviation Regulations, the General Operations Manual, Operations Specifications, the Part 135 Training Manual, the company Rotorcraft Load Combination Flight Manual and company policy and procedure.
Ensures all Part 135 pilots are qualified and current for the operation and mission profiles for which they are assigned.
Maintains Part 135 program pilot proficiency and training records and provides the Director of Operations with status reports as required.
In conjunction with relevant Company aviation leadership, manages the day-to-day activities of the Part 135 program Flight Operations Department; including, but not limited to: oversight of pilot schedules, pilot base assignments, aircraft fleet management, and the requirements of administrative policy and procedure.
Develops Pilot Training curriculum and related training materials.
Maintains Part 135 and Part 133 qualifications in at least one type of company aircraft.
Assists the Director of Operations on the status of Part 135 flight operations and the training of flight crew members.

Minimum Requirements

Highly knowledgeable of the Rotorcraft Load Combination Flight Manual, Fire Rescue Standardization Manual, Operations Manual, FAR’s, Operations Specifications, Flight Manuals, etc., and other instructions pertinent to flight operations.
Ability to think strategically, while attending to details.
Skills in observations, assessment and creative problems solving.
Ability to communicate professionally, effectively and persuasively both orally and in writing at all levels of the organization.
Ability to maintain composure under pressure, work effectively and accurately with frequent interruptions, and set and reset multiple priorities.
Strong PC and software skills, including Excel and Word.
Team building skills
Requirements:
Excellent public relations, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
Ability to communicate professionally, effectively and clearly.
Maintains ongoing knowledge of and communicates the importance of SOP’s.
Ability to empower, organize and motivate a team.
Remains aware and understands the political environment both internally and externally.
Ability to work within a strong team environment.
Credentials/Licenses:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of knowledge and experience.
2000 hours total flight time
1500 hours helicopter time
Check Airman experience-preferred
FAR 135 management experience-preferred
Previous HEMS experience or equivalent – preferred
Meets FAR 135.337 requirement to serve as a check airman
